Ms. Wilor Bluege, master ballet instructor and choreographer, will teach character dance classes this fall, held at Tapestry Folkdance Center in Minneapolis. These classes are designed for the pre-pointe level student (ages 9-13, with 2-3 years of classical ballet training), and pointe level students (ages 13-18, with at least 2 years of training en pointe). Character dance is an essential part of training for the classical ballet student. Ms. Bluege will also teach pre-pointe master coaching classes, beginning on Sunday September 20, 2009. These classes provide a positive, more personalized approach to ballet training. As a former principal dancer, and with extensive training in the Russian style, Ms. Bluege inspires a passion for classical ballet, resulting in the next generation of artists, audiences, and supporters. Dance Impressions is a premier, student centered and award winning performing arts organization that trains students in a triple threat of dance, acting, and singing. Aside from broken bones and torn ligaments, injured dancers generally don’t stop dancing for more than a few days if they receive the correct treatment promptly. When an injury occurs, it is important for a dancer to recognize limitations and modifications at the first signs that something is wrong. Because dancers and gymnasts have different demands placed on their bodies than other athletes, it is important to realize that the treatment for an athletic injury and dance injury can be very different. The treatment also varies if a dancer is also involved in another sport.
